CPD (Continuing Professional Development) is how the electrical industry ensures users within the sector keep up to date with the knowledge and skills required for safe and effective practices. At Test Instrument Solutions we strongly believe in CPD and this is one of the reasons we have developed an expansive knowledge base on all the fundamental elements of electrical testing. With that in mind we would like to introduce a new CPD in continuity testing, in conjunction with eFIXX – the electrician’s channel.
We believe that learning is essential and in a developing and constantly changing industry, you should always continue to improve your professional skills and knowledge. This is essential for regulatory compliance and for the design, installation and operation of safe electrical circuits.
The importance of continuity testing
Continuity testing is a basic test to be carried out before an electrical installation is put into service or part of a periodic inspection - and this tells us whether or not there are damaged components or conductors in a circuit, whether the installation is of a good quality and whether the design of the circuit is correct. For example, the continuity test can tell us if the resistance of the circuit is too high for current to flow & that all parts of the circuit are connected as they should be.

All this and much more is covered in the continuity testing CPD TIS are helping promote, which is an addition to the existing CPD covering safe isolation testing. This has proven to be a valuable resource for electrical testers of varying experience, qualification and accreditation, and so the CPDs are useful for a learner carrying out the test for the first time, or for an experienced on-site tester looking to expand their knowledge on the finer details. The CPD takes the form of a series of video tutorials developed with the team at eFIXX, and then the user needs to answer some multiple-choice questions in order to validate their learning. At Test Instrument Solutions we also have more CPDs to promote which are in the planning stages, these will cover insulation testing, loop testing and RCD testing, and we will work alongside eFIXX, who are building an extensive range of visual and easy-to-digest guides on various elements of electrical testing.
