One of the most common problems found with the operation of a solar PV system is the inadequate connection of MC4 connectors. This is usually an issue with the crimping quality of the connectors, but this can be addressed by the new tool released by Test Instrument Solutions, in conjunction with hand-held tools giant KNIPEX – the new TIS MC4KIT.

 

What are MC4 connectors and why are they important?

MC4 connectors are also known as solar connectors. They are very small components, but also very important, and are needed in junction boxes, inverters and for cable connections between components. The problem that can occur is that the connector can burnout, this can be due to the poor quality of the connector itself, ie. the component, or most commonly it is caused by poor installation. The installation issue is usually down to crimping quality.
